Equipment Standards

The ScubaResale Quality Standard

Good used dive equipment deserves clear, specific information. Our product listings describe cosmetic condition separately from inspection, testing, and servicing. We show actual-item photos wherever available and disclose known imperfections and included accessories.

Our condition grades

Grade Classification What it means
A Excellent Minimal signs of use; very clean appearance with little to no noticeable cosmetic wear.
B Very Good Light cosmetic wear, including minor scratches or scuffs; well-preserved overall.
C Good Noticeable wear from use, such as scratches, scuffs or discoloration, disclosed in the listing.
D Fair Significant cosmetic wear or aging, described and photographed.
N New Unused merchandise in new condition.
OB Open Box Unused merchandise with opened or imperfect packaging; any item-specific deviations are described.

Important: A condition grade describes appearance and physical condition only. It is not a certification of safety, functional performance, service completion, or readiness to dive. Products sold for parts or repair are explicitly labeled Parts / As-Is and are not considered dive-ready.

What “ScubaResale Inspected” means

We evaluate the actual condition of applicable pre-owned gear. Inspection activities differ by product type and may include visual assessments of wear, cleanliness, components, hoses, straps, seals or hardware; functional checks; and specific testing where the equipment and available tools allow. The individual listing identifies documented work. An inspection label alone does not mean every possible check has been performed.

Inspection and verification by equipment type

  • Regulators: Visual assessment and any completed cleaning, pressure, breathing-effort, or surface-function checks are described. No pressure or breathing-effort result is implied unless specifically documented. A function check is not a full overhaul.
  • BCDs: Inspection may include the bladder, inflator, dump and overpressure valves, seams and leak/hold checks when performed. The listing specifies completed checks.
  • Dive computers: Disclosed checks may include power-on, display and button operation, battery status, settings reset and other available functions. Surface checks do not establish underwater or depth-chamber performance.
  • Fins, masks and accessories: Visual and physical condition assessments document cosmetic wear, straps, buckles, blades, skirts and other relevant components. Fit and in-water performance can vary by diver.
  • New, open-box, and third-party products: These do not automatically receive the ScubaResale pre-owned inspection designation. Packaging, supplier status and any checks performed are described separately.

Service status and safety

ScubaResale inspections and function checks are not a substitute for manufacturer-authorized servicing, a professional overhaul, or a dive test. Unless a listing explicitly documents completed service, no such service should be assumed. Before using life-support equipment, have it evaluated and serviced as appropriate by a qualified technician, and follow the manufacturer's guidance.

Transparency on every listing

We aim to provide accurate photos, cosmetic grades, known defects, included accessories, relevant testing information and service disclosures. If a check is not documented, customers should not assume it was performed. Our condition grades are an internal ScubaResale classification system, not a manufacturer certification or “Certified Pre-Owned” designation.
